»Wind in your shoes: on foot along the Danube river«
is more than a project: it’s an adventure.
 
14th july-14th september 2011 i was walking along the Danube river: the long river that starts its journey in Germany (Donaueschingen) and ends, after almost 3.000 km, in Romania at the Black Sea… 
I was crossing 4 nations: Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary; 1193 km in 72 days walking;  and after lots of adventures and persons, i was reaching Budapest, in Hungary.
 
»Wind in Your Shoes« will start again its walking from Budapest in Hungary on the 5th may 2012.
I’m planning to reach Belgrad and Kladovo.
 
I do not want to reproduce a sweet image of reality (as glossy ads do), but simply walk through it and let the river (Danube) collect and channel and tell its own stories.
 
I don’t pretend to cross borders whilst playing an extreme sport, on the contrary my adventure is ‘democratic’, accessible to everybody, indeed I will simply walk!  I will walk along the main river in Europe, among its people, crossing eight countries and encountering seven different cultures and languages.
 
Therefore i have a special request.
I’m looking for a place to sleep and persons to meet in the following countries:
 
Hungary (H): Paks, Kaloksa, Mohàcs.
Croatia (HR): Osijek, Vukovar,
Serbia (SRB): Backa Palanka, Novi Sad, Belgrad, Smederevo, Veliko Gradiste, Golubac, Kladovo, Sip (Iron Gate).

»IL VENTO NELLE SCARPE
A PIEDI LUNGO IL DANUBIO
un cammino di rosario tedesco

Forse vi interesserà,
forse vi interesserà sapere
che dal 14 luglio al 14 settembre 2011
ho percorso a piedi il Danubio
da Donaueschingen in Germania, dove nasce,
fino a Budapest in Ungheria.

Forse vi interesserà sapere
che il viaggio non è finito,
che dal 5 maggio 2012 riprenderò il cammino:
da Budapest fino a Belgrado in Serbia.

Forse avrete capito che, passo dopo passo,
se tutto va bene, arriverò in Romania a Sulina,
dove il Danubio sfocia nel Mar Nero
e termina il suo viaggio – da Ovest a Est –
attraversando tutte le lingue
della vecchia e della nuova Europa.

Forse vi interessa… e se ci pensate:
presto o tardi vi interesserà per forza sapere che succede
in quella parte di mondo che si chiama Europa,
e che già sta scorrendo come un fiume
in casa nostra, nelle nostre abitudini,
nel nostro futuro, unito o in frantumi che sia.
E allora parliamone.
A me interessa.

Se invece, proprio non vi interessa,
scusate il disturbo.

»Wind in Your Shoes: On Foot Along the Danube River a Presentation by Italian Actor and Director Rosario Tedesco Monday, 19th September 7:00 PM Lobby, Nador u. 13. Central European University

Italian actor Rosario Tedesco presents his walk along the Danube river, from its source in Donaueschingen, Germany, to Budapest, from where he will contiune towards the Black Sea. “With this walk I would like to foster the knowledge of a modern Europe, seen through a sort of ‘horizontal’ eye to highlight how ancient and still undefined this area – commonly referred to as Eastern Europe – is, made of contradictions, different languages, people, historical links and recent wounds.” During this walk, Rosario Tedesco conducts interviews with “intellectuals, novelists, actors, film directors, sociologists, entrepreneurs, ecologists as well as common people to record both the cultural diversity and the interlinks within this area.

“Why the Danube?” He explains: “The river flows along a map, an area that represents the frontier of the new EU aspirations, i.e. to grow the number of its Member States even if it has never stopped to tear, still suspended between its past made of divisions and a future full of uncertainties. The main object of the expedition is to show the Danube river as the way to Europe, the Europe that we will become and we still have to discover”.

WIND IN YOUR SHOES is a walk along the Danube river, from its source in Donaueschingen, Germany, to its delta mouth in Romania where it flows into the Black Sea through two channels, Sulina and Sfantu Gheorghe, and the Chilia channel which goes through Moldavia and Ukraine. During the walk I will collect evidence relating to the diversity and unity of these lands.
